We are here for you.

We understand that visiting the vet can be stressful and overwhelming at times. Please see below for the policies we have in place to help assure the health and safety for our clients and patients.

Policies

Pricing Policy

We pride ourselves on providing a low volume/high touch model for appointment scheduling. This means that our clients receive more face-to-face contact with the veterinarian and care team to ensure that all of their pet’s needs are met during the visit.

We understand that our prices may be higher than others in the area due to the level of care and attention that we provide. However, we believe that the quality of care that we offer is well worth the investment in your pet’s health and well-being. We strive to be transparent in our pricing and will can provide you with an estimate of the costs associated with your pet’s care before treatment is performed. Our staff is available to answer any questions you may have regarding the pricing of our services.

Prescription Policy

Healing Hands is committed to providing the highest quality care for your pet. To ensure the safety and health of your furry friend, we require a valid Veterinary-Client-Patient relationship (VCP) before prescribing any medications. In accordance with the regulations of the state of Minnesota, we must examine your pet at least once every 12 months, or whenever a new health condition arises, in order to prescribe medications.

We understand that some clients may prefer to fill their pet’s prescriptions with an online corporate pharmacy.   We are happy to provide a written prescription upon request and hope that you consider supporting a local, woman- owned business instead as we try to provide a competitive price.  Please be advised that many of our preventative medications also come with manufacturer warrantees and rebates.

Lab Work Policy

We are committed to providing the highest quality of care for our patients, especially those with chronic conditions that require ongoing medical management. To ensure that your pet is receiving the best possible care, we require regular lab work or other monitoring.

For pets with chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, kidney disease, and urinary incontinence, we recommend blood work or other monitoring at least every 12 months. This is necessary to ensure that the condition is being managed properly and to detect any adverse reactions to treatment.

In some cases, more frequent lab work or monitoring may be necessary, depending on the specific condition and the individual needs of your pet. Our veterinary team will work with you to develop a customized treatment plan that takes into account your pet’s unique needs and medical history.

Surgical Policy

At our hospital, we prioritize the health and well-being of animals above all else. Therefore, we only perform surgical procedures that are medically necessary and decline requests for procedures that may cause harm or discomfort to animals, such as feline declawing, canine debarking, ear cropping, tail docking or dew claw removal. We understand that these procedures were commonly performed in the past, but we believe that they are a disservice to our furry friends.

We take the safety of our patients very seriously and have implemented strict safety protocols to minimize any risks associated with anesthesia. Before any surgical procedure requiring general anesthesia, we require that all pets undergo bloodwork within 30 days of the surgery, have an IV catheter placed prior to the procedure, and receive perioperative pain medications. These measures help ensure that your pet is as comfortable and safe as possible throughout the surgical process.

We also use a multimodal approach to anesthesia, tailoring our anesthetic plan to the individual patient’s needs. This approach allows us to use smaller doses of several medications to achieve anesthesia and analgesia, ensuring that each patient receives the most appropriate and safest anesthesia possible. We take into account the pet’s age, health condition, and any specific metabolic concerns they may have, to ensure the most successful and least risky outcome for your pet.

End Of Life Care

Healing Hands is committed to providing compassionate and responsible end-of-life care for our furry friends. We understand that this is a difficult and emotional time for pet owners, and we strive to make the process as peaceful and comfortable as possible for both the pet and the owner.

We only perform euthanasia for pets that are suffering from a serious illness, injury or chronic condition that can no longer be treated or managed with medical care. We do not euthanize healthy or adoptable pets, or pets with treatable conditions. In such cases, we will provide alternative treatment options or refer the owner to other facilities or organizations that can assist them.

For clients visiting for the first time, we require a quality-of-life assessment to ensure that the pet is ready to transition, and that euthanasia is the most humane and appropriate course of action. We trust our clients’ judgment and welcome any questions or concerns they may have regarding the process.

We do not offer “Drop-Off” Euthanasia appointments, as we believe it is important to have a conversation with the owner to ensure they fully understand the process and what to expect. While you don’t have to be physically present in the room during the procedure, we encourage you to meet with us in person to talk about managing feelings after the loss of a pet, and to help you navigate through the emotional distress that losing a pet may cause. We are committed to supporting pet owners throughout the process. We understand that this is a difficult and emotional time, and we are here to provide comfort and support to both the pet and the owner.

Reactive, Fearful or Aggressive Pet Policy

At Healing Hands, we understand that some pets may become stressed, fearful or reactive during their visits to the hospital. In the past, heavy physical restraint may have been employed to manage these pets, but we believe that patient welfare should always be the top priority.

To ensure the safety and comfort of all our patients, we have longer appointment times and utilize gentle handling techniques to decrease stress and anxiety for our furry friends. In some circumstances, we may also prescribe medications to be given prior to the appointment to further help reduce anxiety. We find that the use of medication, coupled with time and desensitization training, can really improve patient outcomes.

However, we reserve the right to decline to see a reactive patient for the well-being of our staff. If we determine that it is not safe for our staff to handle a particular pet, we will refer the client to a specialist or alternative facility that can better accommodate their pet’s needs.

Our hospital has also been designed to be safe and comfortable for all our patients. We have separate cat and dog wards with soundproofing, cozy kennels that minimize noise, a soothing decor scheme, and traffic flow that avoids blind corners and nose-to-nose contact.

We understand that visiting the veterinarian can be stressful for both pets and their owners. Our staff is trained to handle these situations with care and empathy, and we will work with you to make your pet’s visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Healing Hands has a Zero Tolerance Policy for Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying

At Healing Hands, we are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all our clients and staff. We believe that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity, and we have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, intimidation, and bullying.

These behaviors can have a negative impact on our ability to provide quality care for our clients and their pets, and they are harmful to everyone involved. We believe that everyone deserves to feel safe and supported, and we will not tolerate any behavior that goes against this belief.

Therefore, we reserve the right to decline services or employment to anyone who engages in these behaviors. We take all reports of harassment, intimidation, and bullying seriously and will investigate them thoroughly. If any such behavior is found to have occurred, appropriate action will be taken.

We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses any form of harassment, intimidation, or bullying to report it to our staff immediately. We will take all reports seriously and will work with you to address the situation promptly and effectively.
